In-home sessions are among some of my favorite to shoot! They are so intimate, relaxed, and often a real reflection of a couple. The home can be the couple’s or it can be somewhere else, like a vacation rental. Regardless of which it is, I find the results are the same. It’s an overall cozy and warm feeling.
Connor + Lacey are newlyweds, which made them so fun and easy to photograph. As a photographer, it’s the best when I’m able to just step back and allow a couple to be themselves and enjoy some alone time together. Often couples expect to be “posed” when they arrive for a session, but I prefer a “guided” approach instead. When I’m able to give simple and light instruction, then the couple is able to interpret that instruction in a way that authentically represents them. In return, I’m able to focus on creating beautiful imagery and tell the story of that couple.
This photojournalistic approach isn’t for everyone, but those who choose to embrace it often find the time flies by! You feel like you just spent time with your significant other, and not at a photoshoot. You’re able to relax and breathe, without any pressure to look or act a certain way. The more I photograph couples who want their story told more than a collection of posed images, the more my love for photography grows and is rekindled.
I hope you enjoy this lazy afternoon, in-home session. I feel cozy just looking at these photos, and I hope you do too!
