When Crystal, David and I started planning out their bridal session, they had a very distinct vision. They shared with me their love for Amangiri and the red rocks of the desert. Because planning a trip out to Utah for an actual Amangiri shoot wasn’t possible, they styled themselves in a way that aligned with that vision.
I approached their session from a more editorial perspective because Amangiri has always given off that feeling to me. While bringing in an editorial mindset, I still incorporated my own process and shooting style — giving space for authenticity and capturing intimacy and details.
We were slow and intentional.
While I will always strive for real connection and authentic imagery when I shoot, it can be a lot fun to bring in a conceptual style that highlights the narrative of the story that my couple wants to tell. It allows room for creativity and inspiration.
David and Crystal have been together for almost eight years and also run a wellness business together. It was clear to me how much they enjoy each other. They plan to have a destination wedding in Cabo with their closest family and friends, which aligns so well with their personalities. They really love nature and travel. Some of their favorite adventures were Glacier National Park, Greece, Costa Rica, and Kauai.
I think what I love most about my couples is our shared love for the outdoors. I have such a deep connection to nature that has really flourished over the years. Getting to know and photograph individuals who feel the same way about our earth and the value of experiences is such a meaningful thing, that I can’t even put it into words.
I have so many new and beautiful places to explore this year and I’m really looking forward to the experiences that await.
